trance movieWow! It’s been half a year or so since my last post and that’s because I’ve been busy working and nursing my brand new blog. Curious? Click here. Although this is a good time to promote my new site, what really urged me to update this blog is my latest fave movie — Trance.

Forgive me but this is one of those fangirling moments. I got the DVD because of James McAvoy (whom I’ve been smitten by since years ago). Besides that, I trust that his choices, which gave me the impression that Trance will be another film to treasure. And I was right! I mean, that’s based on my opinion.

For one thing, Trance is the kind of movie that you think you know the whole story about during the first half. Come second half, you get confused and begin wondering where it’s going.

The Characters

As always, James delivered a fantastic performance although his acting gave me a hard time separating his character from Wes of Wanted, which was also excellent by the way.

James is the apple of my eye but Vince Casell is also a darling. At his age, he still looks the perfect guy for the role — a matinee idol, hot papa next door who can steal and kill. He did not stand out as much as James did but they compensated each other.

What I do not approve of is Rosario Dawson. She teams up good with Casell. Her partnership with James is a little (or hugely) awkward. Sure, Vince is 46 and James is 34. Obviously, James is supposed to be the perfect tandem for a 33-yr old Dawson (whaaat?!) but she looks old for James. On top of that, she’s not the kind of kind of girl that I would be obsessed with if I were a guy. She’s pretty and smart in the movie but the former is not close to what would swing my obsession into action. Just saying…

I had the same predicament with the straight-to-DVD movie The Resident starring Hilary Swank and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. In that movie, Morgan’s character got obsessed with the Anorexic-looking Swank. Goodness. And by the way, I had the hots for Morgan at that time. They should be obsessing with me! šŸ˜€ Yeah, I wish.

And Danny Boyle! His works has always interested me since Trainspotting. I’ve seen some of his popular films too like 28 Days Later, 127 Hours, The Beach, and Slumdog Millionaire — never fails to amuse. Seeing the name is already a come-on. I just don’t think it’s necessary for Rosario to go all the way in Trance šŸ˜€

The Plot

One time, I read in an article online that Trance is ranked number one in the list of Best Movies of all time. The list by the way consists of movies released in the last decade. Trance is great and Danny Boyle is slowly becoming a favorite but if you would say that Trance is more mind-twisting than Inception or Shutter Island or Memento even, it would be a joke.

What I admire about Trance is that it’s action, sci-fi, romance, comedy, noir, and thriller thrown into one magnificent mix.

The scenes are poignant (of course, it’s James!); the effects are just good and not overdone; the editing is superb. If there are plot holes, perhaps it would pass you by as you watch the film. It’s psychedelia in your face.

In summary, I loved the movie and I loved James more that I can’t wait to see Filth. He has always been a superb actor and always been the nice guy. In his upcoming film, he’s playing a filthy cop so expect lots of sadistic sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll! My kind of movie šŸ™‚

Below, you will find the link to the trailer of Filth. Enjoy!
